KC Chiefs Placekicker Goes Wide Right and Finds Political Power

"NFL bosses like Clark Hunt [KC Chiefs] are now politically laundering the tax dollars we spend on publicly funded stadiums and spending it on Butker’s shared ideological agenda [extremely intolerant Christian Nationalism, basically]. But players, like quarterback Colin Kaepernick or safety Eric Reid, who protested racism and police violence during the National Anthem, find themselves banned from the sport. In the political and financial realities of Roger Goodell’s National Football League, Kaepernick and Reid hit the pavement while Harrison Butker, this kicker, hits the jackpot. The privilege of being white. The privilege of being on the far right."

Dave Zirin @ The Nation

They talk a lot about their "values" being under attack. So what are those values? Denying women's basic individual rights and basic reproductive rights would be number one, apparently. And then after that they get a bit random and convoluted with vague allusions about how granting rights to women, immigrants, POC, LGBTQ+, liberals, non-Christians, etc, are emasculating [again, Christian white] men. There is no way majorities of Americans are for these hateful values, not even a majority of NFL players, but this "traditional" bigotry is passively dignified in the mainstream media. And in the NFL's power structure.
